F.E.A.R 1 or 2
The F.E.A.R games are truly a great series, but which one out of the two in it is the better game: F.E.A.R 1 or 2? I feel that F.E.A.R 2 was better simply because I enjoyed it moreso than its predecessor, but what is your perspective on this? Do you prefer the older or the younger game?

RE: F.E.A.R 1 or 2
I have to give it to F.E.A.R 2. The gameplay simply felt smoother, and the suspense I believe was much more focused on in this version in contrast with its predecessor. However, both are magnificent games nevertheless, and I would replay both again and again for a long time without its getting old.

RE: F.E.A.R 1 or 2
I'm going with F.E.A.R. 1 here. The graphics were more impressive for their time, the AI seems to be more responsive, the scary parts are...scarier, and the story was fun(even if it did end abruptly). The multiplayer for FEAR 1 is currently free and legal as well. I do take a point away for the repetitive scenery.

RE: F.E.A.R 1 or 2
Well, it's not scary, the A.I. sucks, and depending on the game in the series, it's either far too dull an environmental setting or the guns really really suck.

See, that's better. You gave reasons to base your opinion on, which is respectable. I do agree with your view on the dull environments.

RE: F.E.A.R 1 or 2
In FEAR, the enemies don't actually seem to use cover. And something that completely ruins the game experience, and I have no clue why this is probably just me, but they just drop their grenades, like just on the floor.
I play on extreme difficulty and hard on FEAR and FEAR 2 respectively and find very little challenge. Also, the animations are robotic. Texture resolution in a game doesn't matter for crap unless it's in BioShock where the low resolution coupled with the highly reflective shaders makes everything look like plastic. However, they seemed to trade any talent in model anatomy and animation quality in for big textures and crappy optimization of effects. |

RE: F.E.A.R 1 or 2
Hahaha!!! I remember them dropping the grenades like that
That was kinda dumb. The AI didn't use cover very much, but I liked how they climbed over obstacles on their own. I has some fun moments where I busted into a room and the AI jumped out of a window and shot at me from outside or tried to surround me (not sure if they were doing that intentionally, but whatever).I'll agree with both of your points about difficulty and NPC character model "stiffness." Ya know, I don't claim that F.E.A.R. was flawless or anything, but I do feel that it was very fun to play it on the first run through (In the middle of then night and all alone). RE: F.E.A.R 1 or 2
The first FEAR game and it's expansions without a doubt, they had a fairly decent story, great visuals, good AI and an amazing atmosphere that reminded me of the old Crusader games for some reason.
Haven't played the second game much but it seemed more like a "regular fast paced shooter" to me, the feeling of "being alone" seemed gone. Also it is very colorful compared to the first game. |
